Evolving Roles: From CMO to CEO

Over 20% of FTSE 100 CEOs now come from a marketing background, according to an article recently written by Marketing Week.

A study done by executive search firm, Heidrick & Struggles, analyzed CMO characteristics of CEOs, including past experience and education.

The results? An uptick in the amount of CEOs hired who previously come from marketing roles.

It doesn’t look like the trend will hit a plateau any time soon, either, as it becomes more important that everyone knows how a brand engages consumers. With the UK leading the way in terms of which companies employ former marketers, the US and Germany aren’t far behind.
