CMO – BrightPlan – San Jose Area

The ideal candidate will be someone who likes to build new things and solve complex problems. As the Chief Marketing Officer, you will drive the marketing strategy, team, systems, and processes to drive BrightPlan growth.

The right person for this role blends both the art and science of marketing. Ideally you have a background in consumer SaaS with Fintech experience a definite plus. We are looking for someone who has “been there, done that” and wants the thrill and reward of doing it with another great company.

Reporting to the Founder and CEO, the CMO’s primary responsibility is to “own the number” and drive revenue growth by increasing customer acquisition, adoption and engagement.


Build, lead, and mentor the BrightPlan marketing team
Strategize, develop, and execute initiatives to position BrightPlan as an industry leader
Understand the BrightPlan customer by segmenting demographic, buying patterns, customer lifetime value
Build and scale a world-class new customer acquisition capability using the latest inbound marketing and outbound targeting and acquisition techniques and insights
Drive marketing creative look, feel and execution for the brand
Lead product positioning and messaging
Grow revenue by identifying the most productive and cost efficient acquisition channels
Drive and influence innovative use of social media, PR, and influencer marketing to build awareness and engagement
Lead, nurture and champion new, out-of-the-box thinking that results in breakthrough ideas to lead the brand forward
Identify key metrics and build exec-facing dashboards to track progress of the lifecycle marketing and its highest priority initiatives. Present weekly to executive leadership on campaign performance

Required Skills/Experience:

BS/BA, MBA or equivalent preferred
10-15+ years of marketing experience with a demonstrated track record of success
5+ years’ experience as a VP of Marketing or CMO managing rapid growth in a consumer SaaS or Fintech company.
Career blended with a mix of startups and highly recognized consumer brands. Thrives in a start-up atmosphere
Proven ability to attract, retain, develop and motivate top talent
Entrepreneurial, scrappy, hands-on self-starter with a passion to succeed
Thought leader with big picture ideas who is not afraid to get their hands dirty
Experience in creating and optimizing successful partnerships that drive sustainable growth
Proven track record of brand, online and mobile marketing expertise and current with the evolving role and tools of modern digital marketing (social, inbound, analytics)
Deep familiarity with customer life-cycle marketing – from acquisition through retention – and the technology that enables it (targeting and personalization tools, automated CRM)
P&L savvy, operationally excellent, data and metrics driven. Proven ability to balance short and long-term goals
High level of mental agility and a strong learning mindset
Demonstrated the highest level of integrity; a values-based leader who can build and maintain and high integrity culture that motivates people to do the best work of their lives
