VP, Creative – Guthy Renker

The VP, Creative is a key leadership role that establishes the overall design vision, philosophy and work process for G/R’s internal design team and external agencies. This is a unique opportunity to work side by side with our senior leadership team – this group is comprised of some of the best global talent in direct marketing. The role will influence the future of G/R’s portfolio of products by setting creative strategy and direction as we move deeper into the beauty space. Our ideal candidate holds an entrepreneurial mindset, the desire to mentor and grow a team of wonderful creatives, has a strong portfolio displaying compelling creatives in print and digital advertising, video and web and a passion for our company vision. This position reports in to the Chief Marketing Officer.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead overall visual and motion design aesthetic of the user experience
• Inform and refine company’s creative process – this includes work on both visual and copy/content to ensure consistent messaging for each of our brands.
• Partner with leadership to shape the creative strategy for the company
• Develop and distribute best practices for creative process, design and IA documentation
• Hire, manage and mentor the internal creative team/manage external agency strategic input and deliverables – create an environment where innovation and risk taking is encouraged
• Ensure visual design consistency between on-air creatives and internal creative team’s executions (digital, print, retail, e-tail, packaging, photography)
• Lead interdisciplinary communication between different cross-functional teams (marketing, brand, product development, catalog, acquisitions, current member, cross sell/win-back, printed media, mobile, development, digital, PR and social)
• Lead visual design team in researching problems, developing original ideas and designing innovative solutions for user experience
• Provide clear creative direction at initiation and follow through by coaching creative team members; monitoring and guiding their efforts and investing in successful results
• Facilitate brainstorms that generate innovative, unexpected ideas.
• Review and approve concepts and designs assigned to and developed by staff ensuring high-quality creative deliverables. Present these concepts and designs for executive approval. Anticipate executive needs and deliver above and beyond their request
• Ensure executional accountability — oversee execution of visual/motion/copy design deliverables throughout all phases of production
• Establish creative team as expert in design and UX – assure the integrity of UI visuals on all products
• Act as a change agent/impact player from both an internal and external perspective
• Step in to art direct as necessary
• Manage resource planning, scheduling and strategy
• Manage annual direct and indirect budgets and ensure proper execution
• Responsible for both production and execution of all product photo shoots, file management, retouching and all product imagery deliverables
• Review production schedule and weekly creative status report
• Deliver and maintain style guides for each of the brands, in addition to creating a corporate style guide for G/R.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelors degree
• 10+ years’ experience in senior level Creative roles working with consumer brands, (beauty focus desirable), preferably with direct response background.
• History of in-house agency management and client servicing
• Experience with writing and developing briefs and production schedules
• Superior technical skills in Creative Suite
• Superior sense of design, color, image composition and typography
• Extensive knowledge of both digital and print production, (some packaging experience desirable)
• Experience with directing teams of Artists, Designers, Re-touchers, Photographers, Copywriters, Video Producers
• Track record of positive client relationships and stellar presentation skills
• Communicate and listen with superb skills and experience
• Demonstrate strong leadership qualities
• Possesses self-motivated creativity and strategic thinking in fast-paced environment
• Consistently involved with design community and professional organizations
