The Houston Chapter of The CMO Club met recently for a roundtable on the topic of “Finding, Retaining and Motivating Talent”. To kick things off, each marketing executive at the table shared the top question that they ask during interviews to help them make better hiring decisions. Here is the list of top 10 questions they shared. Great insights to add to your own interview questions:
#1: What do you think of our website and/or mobile apps and how would you improve them? (Why? Candidates’ response indicates their interest level in the company as well as their initiative and creativity)
#2: Who has been the biggest influence in your life and why? (Why? Helps determine if candidate is a good cultural fit)
#3: What motivates you?
#4: What was your succession plan at your last company for making sure someone was in place to replace you? (Why? Their response could demonstrate a proactive approach to moving up in the organization)
#5: What is your favorite kind of music or artists? (Why? Shows levels of passion as almost everyone loves/has an opinion about music)
#6: Please share one thing that you have led with passion in your career. (Why? This will help you get a feel for how passionate they are at work)
#7: Would your boss hire you again and why?
#8: What’s the biggest mistake you made in your career and how did you address it?
#9: Who is the one person in this company you would like to have lunch with before making a decision about the position (excluding me)? (Why? This will offer more insights into how they think and what matters most to them)
#10: What is the kindest thing you have ever done in a job setting? (Why? Gives you insights into how kind they are)
