Developing a Plan for the First 90 Days in a New Role
Jackie Woodward left McDonald’s in 2006 when she was recruited to Miller Brewing Company. The CMO who hired her had previously worked at Coca-Cola with George Bradt, who wrote the book, The New Leader’s 100-Day Plan. George became her Executive Coach at the insistence of her new boss. “It was an incredible gift to have George as my coach,” she says. After 15 years with one company, her CMO recognized that she needed help thinking through how to navigate a new environment and a new role. Jackie is convinced it made all the difference in the world. George required her to get started before she even got there, reaching out to colleagues, peers, distributors, agencies, really everyone who she’d be working with. He required her to be intentional in her plan, to write down everything, and to create a roadmap of what needed to happen.
