“What is your top productivity hack? Professionally, personally or both.”
My Friday by Five status document: Each of my direct reports sends me by close of business Friday answers to 5 questions.
The questions are designed to focus them and me on the most critical projects, where my support is needed and where I can or should bring in others to help round out perspectives and bring projects to fruition. I read this over the weekend and come to our team status call Monday morning with a holistic sense of the business and what’s the path to keep us high performing.
By far, Slack is the biggest game changing tool to the professional world. And the additional apps you can connect within Slack are powerful. As simple as it sounds, blocking time on my calendar to “work” is the smartest hack I encourage my entire team to do as we all get caught up in too many meetings.
Productivity Hack…both business and personal.
I start each business day by setting a personal agenda for that day including meeting plans, prioritized email responses and a touch-base, usually email, with all whom I plan to interact with during that day. This usually takes about 30-45 minutes and puts me in control of my day…..never perfect but close enough.
Personal Hack is my Peloton Bike. I can do a class any time and with my crazy schedule, most classes are really early in the AM. Once I complete a class, I am on for the rest of the day.
I follow the system prescribed in by David Allen “getting things done” it’s about getting your inbox (electronic and physical) to zero, chunking out the different types of work you’re doing, tracking all the things people owe you, and having a very simplistic filing system.
Professionally, both BOX and ZOOM have helped me be much more efficient, especially where multiple collaborators are needed. Both allow file sharing, screen sharing, and multiple editors at any given time, without compromising version control, you can work live together on a document and see each other’s amends. And you can see each other at the same time, which is always a bonus and makes the work that much more enjoyable. 😊
