A Discussion on the Future of the Workplace

And returning to the office

The return to a post-pandemic workplace is far from a return to normalcy.

Every company, from Fortune 500 enterprises to startups, is creating a path forward and, for most, it looks nothing like the past. Even after 15-plus months of addressing a host of issues from technology and time management to corporate culture, companies face new and persisting challenges as the pandemic veil is lifted. Opportunities are emerging, as well.

As the dust settles on the options, companies are now parsing through the pros and cons of essentially three work models: in person, virtual or a hybrid. Which path a company chooses is largely based on its products or services, industry, company size, sales channel, geographic location, corporate culture, and nature of the work.

Employee preference also comes into play. But that is where it gets complicated. In a large global survey, 73 percent of workers indicate the desire for flexible remote work options to continue; yet 67 percent want more in-person work and collaboration in a post-pandemic world.

Where do companies go from here? Will the workplace model chosen today still make sense in a year? In five years?
